So as I board my flight for Detroit for new adventures, my heart is full and my head is still spinning from a truly momentous closing weekend for the now, officially legendary Sleep No More. I am so grateful for the lifetime friendships and inspirations this show has given me. FOURTEEN YEARS of our beautiful show in the magical Mckitrick Hotel in New York City.
It comforts me somewhat that Sleep No More will live on in Shanghai ( it is NOT closing!) and will be reborn in Seoul later this year, but I will never go back to Manderlay in New York City. I will never pull up in a cab to w27th Street, drag my fingers along the entrance maze or pull myself up the creaking stairs to the birch maze and Lady M’s heart-wrenching bathing scene.
But, I have a lifetime of exquisite memories, poetry and dancing to comfort and inspire me as I engage in the process of letting go. Sleep No More in New York City may be gone, but let’s speak of it often. Let’s treasure it in our hearts and minds.
Missing it and all of you already.
